This is a very important spray. Do not delay more than 12-14 days after last pre-bloom spray. Note: Rally at the higher rates using 200 gal/A dilute sprays in combination with black rot predictor models provide excellent curative control. |
Downy mildew | captan 50WP OR mancozeb 75DF OR Ridomil Gold Copper OR copper fungicides OR Gavel OR phosphorous acid OR Revus OR Presidio OR Forum OR Revus Top OR Ranman |

4 lb 1-2 lb see label 2.0-2.5 lb see label 8 oz 3-4 oz 6 oz 7 oz |
Do not apply mancozeb within 66 days of harvest. Copper fungicides should be mixed with hydrated lime. Copper fungicides may cause injury on certain varieties, esp. under cool, wet conditions. |
Powdery mildew | Elite 45DF or Orius OR Rally 40WSP OR wettable sulfur (81.25% or 92%) OR Procure OR Pristine OR Quintec OR Endura OR Inspire Super OR Revus Top OR Mettle OR Vivando OR Luna Experience |

Where pest has been a problem in the past. Intrepid standard label recommends 4-8 fl oz; see supplemental Dow guidelines for higher rate. REI for Imidan may render it impractical for most growers. See Table for REI and PHI information. |

When available, flowable
(F) formulations pose less risk of phytotoxicity that
emulsifiable (EC; oil-based) formulations. Avoid using captan and oil-based pesticides within 14 days of each other. |

SWD may be more important beginning at veraison, becoming greatest at 15 degrees Brix (risk increases approaching harvest, and while monitoring should begin at veraison, treatment may be delayed until later. It is critical to rotate among insecticides of varying modes of action in order to delay the development of resistance. Be watchful for flareups of secondary pests (mealybugs, spider mites) following applications of pyrethroids. When available, flowable (F) formulations pose less risk of phytotoxicity than emulsifiable (EC) formulations. For Surround, 25 lb in 50 gal/A preferred. Monitor harvest parameters closely when using Surround. PyGanic has a short residual life which limits is efficacy; Surround, Entrust and PyGanic are organic alternatives. |
Grape rootworm | Sevin XLR PLUS | 2 qt | Apply when beetles appear, usually in late June or early July. Second application may be necessary 10 days later. |
Grape leafhopper | Admire Pro OR Nexter 75WP OR Assail 70WP OR Assail 30SG OR Actara 25WDG OR Imidan 70WP OR malathion 8F OR Sevin 50WP OR Sevin XLR PLUS OR Applaud 70DF OR Portal 5EC |
1.0-1.4 fl oz 5.2-10.67 oz 1.1 oz 2.5 oz 1.5-3.5 oz 2 lb 2.5 pt 4 lb 2 qt 9-12 oz |
Apply if more than 5 leafhopper nymphs per leaf before Aug 1, and 10 per leaf thereafter. REI for Imidan may render it impractical for most growers. See Table for REI and PHI information. |
Grape phylloxera | Assail WSP OR Assail 30SG OR Movento 2EC |
1.1 oz 2.5 oz 6.0-8.0 oz |
Repeat 10-12 days after first spray if
foliar form was a problem the previous year. Check labels
for notes on injury to specific varieties. Assail
may only be applied twice per season, at least 14 d
apart. Movento prebloom only in table grapes. |
European red mite | Vendex 70WP OR Vendex 4L OR Nexter 75WP OR Acramite 50WS OR Agri-Mek 0.15EC OR JMS Stylet Oil OR Envidor 2SC OR Zeal WP OR Portal 5EC OR Saf-T-Side 80 OR Nealta |
2 lb 1 qt 4.4-5.2 oz 0.75-1 lb 8-16 fl oz 1-2 gal 16-18 fl oz 2-3 oz 1-2 pts 13.7 fl oz |
Only if mites exceed 10/leaf (20/leaf on labrusca types), and more than minor bronzing occurs. Rotate acaricides. Vendex is available in water-soluble bags (1-2.5 bags per A) and may not be applied within 28 days before harvest. Acramite may only be applied once per year. Use 8 oz of Agri-Mek for low populations, 16 oz for severe. Stylet Oil should be applied at 1-2 gal/A, every 10-14 days against mite eggs. Onager works only against spider mite eggs; observe 28d PHI. Portal for nonbearing vines only. |
Japanese beetle, June beetle, wasps | Sevin 50WP OR Sevin XLR PLUS OR Surround 95WP OR Imidan 70WP OR Assail 70WP OR Assail 30SG OR Avaunt 30DG |
4 lb
2 qt 12.5-50 lb 2 lb 2.5 oz 3.5-6.0 oz |
Apply when beetles are
common, especially on young vines. Bearing vines are most
vulnerable to Japanese beetle feeding after veraison. REI
for Imidan may render it impractical for most
growers. See Table
for REI and PHI information. For yellowjacket
management, trapping newly emerged overwintered queens
with baited traps may help reduce population later in the
season. Control of foraging workers in the
preharvest period will be limited by short residual
activity of available materials, and action only against
current workers. |
Mealybugs |
Applaud 70DF OR Venom 20SG OR Assail 70WP OR Assail 30SG OR Admire Pro OR Movento 2SC OR Belay 50WDG |
9-12 oz 0.44-0.66 lb 1.1 oz 2.5 oz 1.0-1.4 floz 6.0-8.0 fl oz 6 fl oz |
If a delayed dormant spray
does not provide adequate control, a summer application
may be made. Baythroid targets only crawlers. |
Drosophila flies (vinegar flies) | malathion 5EC |
3.0 pt |
Apply if Drosophila are abundant. Do not
apply malathion within 3 days of harvest. When available,
flowable (F) formulations pose less risk of phytotoxicity
that emulsifiable (EC; oil-based) formulations. Avoid using captan and oil-based pesticides within 14 days of each other. |
