Trip overview

The purpose of this trip was to coordinate research and extension activities in Moldova, Ukraine and Albania.  The dates of the trip were 6-26 July 2007

Moldova

8 July: Vladimir Todirash in greenhouse
9 July: Vladimir Todirash and Victor Focsa, doctoral candidate, Victor and Elena Focsa, phytopathologist, Plastic tunnel built by Focsa at Institute            
10 July: New location for Institute in Chisinau, Alex Todirash setting up network at institute

Ukraine - Lviv

11 July - Crossing Dnister from Molova to Ukraine, Vegetable farm family, Finding plum rust mites, Aphis sp. on apple, examining hail damage, fruit manual from our PPMP project, shed with weather monitoring equipment, screen for monitoring apple scab, white stork foraging in apple orchard,  picnic by apple grower
12 July - Visit to vegetable farm, intervewer with farmer, Olena Cholovska and Myroslava Ishchuk at farm, entering farm building for discussion, lunch discussion with family, Stopped for water at spring.
13 July

Ukraine - Odesa

14 July - Stopped at produce market, black and red currants on shelf, Doug, Andrew Ishchuk and Gala Shestopal on Potemkin Steps.
15 July - Arriving at Odesa farmLunch with farmers before presentations. Myroslava and Gala at vineyard talk, Sasha Pleshko with grape growers.  Grapes and apples.  Doug at Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky.
16 July - Coordinator Sasha Plesko, Doug with Sasha Pleshko and Olena Cholovska.

Ukraine - Dnipropetrovsk

17 July - Tour of refurbished classrooms at Dnipropetrovsk State Agrarian University, section of building turned into Syngenta Agronomic Academy, Helen Polyakova, Kateryna Maslikova and Lubov at Dnister River
18 July - Visit to state farm, Kateryna examining phytophthora in field, vegetable grower in plastic tunnel damaged by recent wind storm, visit with Dnipropetrovsk apple grower, high density apple planting.
19 July - picnic on last day in Dnipropetrovsk with DSAU group, moorhen at pond.

Ukraine - Kyiv

20-22 July

Albania

22 July
23 July - Harallamb Pace, Jangel Jovani, Doug and Josef Tedeschini at Plant Protection Institute, American flag at farm, site of CRSP vegetable research trial, nematicide trial, Josef with participating vegetable grower, Bujar Huqi, former CRSP weed scientist, now mayor, back to Skanderbeg Square in evening.
